Hi everyone!

My name’s Pete and I’ve taken over from Jakub as your ASone admin!

I just wanted to write a short introduction and to welcome newcomers to the ‘Your Posts’ section.

Here you can share your experiences, advice and knowledge of living with and managing axial spondyloarthritis (axial SpA) including ankylosing spondylitis (AS). Please feel free to post anything you think will be interesting and engaging but most importantly, let’s keep things honest and supportive, while keeping the swearing to a minimum!

If you would like to contribute something more in-depth and longer, then we would love to hear from you in our Guest Blogs section, so if you have any ideas on this, or anything else, please email me at peterdowson@nass.co.uk.

Thanks for reading this and keep going!

Peter

Volunteers make the world of difference to a small organisation such as NASS and play an important role in helping us to achieve our aims and objectives. We are grateful to everyone who gives their time and effort:

Trustees:

NASS is governed by our Council of Management who are responsible for ensuring the Society is well run and adheres to charity regulations. Click on the link above to read more about our trustees and how to become a NASS trustee.

Medical Advisors:

NASS has health professionals who provide medical advice to ensure our advice and guidance is up to date. Find out more about our medical advisors.

Running a NASS branch:

All NASS branches are run by volunteers. Find out your nearest NASS branch.

Fundraisers:

Fundraisers play a very important role in raising funds to support the work of NASS. Visit our Get Involved page for a range of events and activities that you could take part in.

Event volunteers:

Come along and help out at one of our events. From registering participants to cheering them on to the finish line, volunteering at an event is great fun and your support will be greatly appreciated by participants.

Raising Awareness:

Manning a stand at patient information days, disease awareness events or running a stall at a local event.

NASS does not receive any government funding and relies solely on donations from its members and supporters to carry out our work for people affected by AS. We know that many companies support and encourage their employees’ fundraising efforts. Here are someways that you and your company can help to support the 200,000 people living with AS in the UK.

Charity of the Month Year and Corporate Partnerships

Corporate partnerships are a fantastic way to support NASS. Not only do they help to raise vital awareness of AS and funds for NASS, but they have many benefits for our partners too.

Why partner with NASS?
  • Unite staff against a cause affecting 200,000 people in the UK and increase staff engagement
  • We can help you to meet your corporate social responsibility objectives
  • We’ll help to raise awareness of AS and overall health, improving staff wellbeing
  • Benefit from positive PR stories and increased engagement with your customers and audiences
  • Increase your reach and access new audiences through our communication channels, such as our website and social media.

To find out more about how we can work with you to create a tailored, mutually beneficial partnership that will help to support thousands of people affected by AS, get in touch with Amardeep or give us a call on 020 8741 1515.

Here’s just a few ways your workplace can get involved and make a difference.

Mighty Orange Mashup

Turn your workplace orange and put the fun in fundraising by having a Mighty Orange Mashup!

Whether you have a coffee morning, bake sale, or an after-work pub quiz, there’s loads of ways you and your workmates can get involved! For example, Stephen from Gosport Borough County went the extra mile for his work’s dress-down day, and wore a dress for the day!

So check out our website for some ideas, and get in touch to order your free fundraising pack!

Alternatively, why not enter a work team into a challenge event?

Give as you earn

Various companies operate payroll giving programmes, such as Give As You Earn, that make it easy to donate on a regular basis.

There is a tax advantage to the employee as the donation is withdrawn before you pay tax.

Ask your payroll supervisor or accounts department if your organisation has set up a payroll giving programme.  If they don’t have one there is useful information on how to set one up on the Payroll Centre website at www.payrollgivingcentre.org.uk.

Matched giving

Many companies offer matched funding schemes, matching pound for pound the money you raise through events and activities that you organise such as cake sales and sporting event. Ask your company today to support your fundraising for NASS.

A Mighty Orange Mashup can be whatever you like – as long as it’s fun and orange! Whether it’s an afternoon tea with family, a dress down day at work, or a pub quiz with friends, it’s a chance to get together and make a massive difference to the lives of people living with ankylosing spondylitis.

At Work

– Host an orange-themed bake sale

– Ask everyone to donate £2 to wear something orange (with forfeit fee for those who don’t!)

– Guess the baby photos of your colleagues

– Get your colleagues together for an after-work quiz

– Ask your employer about matched-funding – you could double your donations!

At Home

– Host a night in with friends, with nibbles and games in exchange for a £5 donation

– Get some old board games out for some friendly competitive fun

– Host an orange-themed garden party with your loved ones

In the Community

– Gather family and friends together for a pub quiz

– Organise a local raffle or tombola

– Hold an orange-themed street party with neighbours

– Specialise in a craft? Sell your work with a donation coming to NASS
